The Ram 3500 is the brand's heavy-duty workhorse, built for serious towing and payload duty. It squares off against the Ford F-350 and Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD in the heavy-duty pickup class. The 3500 rides with a heavy-duty firmness that's expected in this class, but the steering is direct and the brakes feel strong. Crew cab models offer a spacious back seat and a well-laid-out dash, with available leather and large touchscreens on higher trims. The Tradesman is the entry-level 3500, skipping the chrome and leather of the Laramie and Limited to keep the price down while keeping the same frame and powertrain choices. Its 6.4L V8 HEMI HD Engine makes 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, routed through an eight-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, so it pulls hard from a stop and handles heavy trailers without drama. The Tradesman can be optioned with the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Towing Prep Group, which adds the factory-installed puck system and wiring for a clean hitch setup.
