Miles Overview
The 2001 Ram 1500 is Dodge's full-size half-ton pickup, the one that competes with the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado. It rides like a proper truck, with a firm, trucky feel that you'll notice over bumps, but the steering is direct and it tracks straight on the highway. The cabin is roomy and straightforward, with big, easy-to-use controls and a bench seat that fits three across. Reliability is a mixed bag; the drivetrain is generally solid, but electrical gremlins and suspension wear are common as these trucks age. The ST is the base trim, so you get a vinyl floor and manual locks, but it also comes with the 5.9L V8 and four-wheel drive as standard. The 5.9L V8 and automatic transmission give this Ram a strong, torquey feel off the line, and the four-wheel drive adds confidence in snow or mud.
