Miles Overview
The Firebird is Pontiac's rear-wheel-drive muscle coupe, the one with the aggressive nose and available T-tops that defined the brand's performance image. The cabin is snug, especially in back, but the front seats are comfortable and the hatchback gives you more cargo room than you'd expect. Watch for bubbling paint on the T-tops and cracking door panels, both common on these cars as they age. The base Firebird is the one for buyers who want the iconic looks and V8 power without the extra cost of the Formula or Trans Am. Under the hood is a 5.7L V8 making 310 horsepower, paired with a four-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive, good for 19 mpg combined. The base trim skips the Formula's stiffer suspension and the Trans Am's scoops, so the ride is a bit softer and the look is cleaner.
