The Crown Victoria is Ford's full-size, body-on-frame sedan, the one that spent decades as the go-to police cruiser and taxi. It rides like a big American sedan should: soft and floaty, with a steering wheel that needs almost no effort to turn at parking-lot speeds. The trunk is enormous, the rear seat swallows three adults easily, and the cabin uses simple controls you can operate with gloves on. The LX is the well-equipped version of the Crown Victoria, adding power windows, locks, and mirrors over the base model. Its 4.6L V8 makes 190 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, routed through a four-speed automatic to the rear wheels, and it returns 18 mpg combined. The LX's optional Handling and Performance Package firms up the suspension and adds a limited-slip differential, making it feel more planted on the highway.
