Miles Overview
The 2019 Atlas is Volkswagen's largest SUV, a three-row family hauler that takes on the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, and Ford Explorer. The Atlas drives with a composed, planted feel, and its steering is light and accurate for a large SUV. The ride is absorbent over most surfaces, though the suspension can feel firm over sharp bumps; that is the trade-off for its stable handling. Inside, the cabin is roomy and functional, with generous space for seven passengers and a straightforward dashboard layout. Standard safety gear includes automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring, and the available touchscreen infotainment is responsive. The SEL Premium adds the full suite of driver aids, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats over the SEL, making it the top-tier Atlas. Its 3.6L I6 makes 276 horsepower and pairs with an {automatic transmission} and all-wheel drive, delivering smooth power for highway merging and towing. Expect fuel economy around 19 mpg combined with this setup, which is typical for a large all-wheel-drive SUV.
