Miles Overview
The 2022 Atlas is Volkswagen's three-row family SUV, slotting above the compact Taos and taking on the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, and Ford Explorer. The Atlas rides smoothly and steers with a light, easy feel that suits family duty, though the base engine can feel strained when fully loaded. Inside, the Atlas offers generous space for seven or eight, with a straightforward dashboard and a large cargo area behind the third row. Standard tech includes a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration, while higher trims add digital gauges and driver-assistance features. Stepping up to the SEL Premium R-Line adds the V6, leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, and Volkswagen's digital cockpit as standard equipment. Its 3.6L V6 makes 276 horsepower and pairs with a eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, delivering smooth power for highway merging but returning 19 mpg combined. The R-Line trim brings unique 20-inch wheels and a sportier exterior look, but the ride stays comfortable rather than firm.
