Miles Overview
The CJ-7 is the classic open-top Jeep, the direct ancestor of today's Wrangler and a favorite for off-road fun. It's a torquey, slow-revving machine that loves crawling over rocks, but it's not happy at highway speeds and feels tippy on wet pavement. The cabin is basic and weather-exposed, with a removable top and doors that flap, but you get a roll bar and a locking console for security. Owners say the CJ-7 is simple to work on and parts are cheap, though rust and U-joint wear are common as it ages. The Base is the CJ-7 for purists who want the simplest, most affordable way into a Jeep, with fewer frills than the Laredo or Renegade. It pairs a torquey 4.2L I6 with a manual transmission and four-wheel drive, giving you low-end grunt for trails but a relaxed feel on pavement.
