Miles Overview
The 2009 Wrangler is the go-anywhere SUV that's equally at home on rocky trails and snowy streets. It's a blast to drive off-road, with solid axles and a low-range transfer case that make tough terrain feel easy. On the highway, the ride is bouncy and the soft top lets in plenty of wind noise, which is the trade for that open-air freedom. The cabin is basic and utilitarian, with hard plastics and simple controls, but the front seats are comfortable and the rear seats fold flat for cargo. Choosing the Rubicon gets you front and rear locking differentials and a disconnecting front sway bar, off-road gear you won't find on the Sahara or X. The Rubicon's 3.8L V6 sends 202 horsepower through the six-speed automatic and locking differentials, making slow-speed crawling feel effortless. Expect 16 mpg combined from the torquey V6, which is the trade for the Rubicon's rock-crawling hardware.
