Miles Overview
This is the classic boxy Cherokee, the smaller and more rugged sibling to the Grand Cherokee that many people still seek out today. The inline-six under the hood is famously tough, and it gives the Cherokee strong low-end pull that makes it feel unstoppable off the pavement. The ride is on the firm side and the tall, narrow body gets pushed around by crosswinds, but that's the trade-off for its off-road ability. Inside, there's room for four adults and a surprisingly large cargo area behind the rear seat, though back-seat entry is a bit tight. The Sport is the sweet spot for most buyers, giving you the rugged four-wheel-drive hardware that the base SE lacks without the extra chrome of the Classic. Its 4.0L V6 pairs with an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, so you get that legendary low-end grunt for trails and enough highway pace to keep up with traffic. The Sport's standard skid plates and tow hooks mean it's ready for dirt right off the lot, and the firm suspension pays off when the pavement ends.
