Miles Overview
The 2005 Wrangler is the classic open-air off-roader, the one people cross-shop with the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Nissan Xterra. It shines on trails and in snow, with a solid axle setup that flexes well and a low range that crawls over obstacles. Expect a bouncy ride and plenty of wind noise on the highway, which is the trade-off for that removable top and rugged suspension. The cabin is basic and snug, but there's room for three and their gear, and the soft top comes off for open-air driving. The Rubicon is the top off-road Wrangler, with locking differentials and a disconnecting sway bar that the X and Sport trims don't get. Its 4.0L I6 makes 190 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, and it returns 15 mpg combined.
