2018 GMC Yukon XL Denali

The Yukon XL is GMC's full-size SUV, the long-wheelbase version of the Yukon that trades some maneuverability for a much bigger cargo bay. If you're also looking at a Chevrolet Suburban or a Ford Expedition Max, this is the one with the plusher interior and the GMC badge. It drives like a big truck, which is exactly what it is, but the steering is light enough that you don't feel every inch of its length. The cabin is roomy for eight, and the third row is genuinely usable for adults, which is rare in this class. The Denali is the top trim, and the step up from the SLT brings the big 6.2L V8, Magnetic Ride Control, and a much nicer interior with ventilated front seats. The 6.2L V8 makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, paired with the ten-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, which gives it effortless passing power even when the cabin is full. Magnetic Ride Control is standard here, so the Denali rides more smoothly than the SLT over rough pavement while still handling its size well on the highway.
