Miles Overview
The 2018 Transit is Ford's full-size van, offered as a cargo van, passenger van, and chassis cab, with two roof heights and three wheelbases. It competes with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ram ProMaster, and Nissan NV in the full-size van segment. The Transit drives more like a large SUV than a traditional van, with responsive steering and a surprisingly composed ride when empty. Cargo capacity is class-leading, and the low load floor and wide rear doors make loading and unloading straightforward. Available technology includes Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment with a touchscreen, plus a rearview camera and optional blind-spot monitoring. Moving up from the XL to the XLT adds carpeting, upgraded cloth seats, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The 3.7L V6 makes 275 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed automatic, returning 16 mpg combined. The XLT can be ordered with the heavy-duty trailer tow package, which includes a hitch receiver and upgraded cooling.
