Miles Overview
The 2002 Explorer is Ford's mid-size SUV, a direct rival to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chevrolet TrailBlazer. It rides smoothly on the highway and handles well for its size, with a sharp turning radius that makes parking easier than you'd expect. The cabin is roomy, with available third-row seating and fold-down rear seats that create plenty of cargo space for hauling gear or friends. Some owners report rust around the rear wheel wells and a stuck blend door actuator that traps the airflow on defrost. The Eddie Bauer is the upscale choice for buyers who want leather seats and woodgrain trim without stepping up to the Limited. Its 4.6L V8 makes 225 horsepower and pairs with the automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, giving you confident traction in snow or mud while returning 14 mpg combined.
