2017 Ford Transit XL

The Transit is Ford's full-size van, the one you see hauling cargo and people for work fleets and camper conversions alike. It drives like a big van, with a commanding view over traffic and a ride that's more about stability than sportiness. Inside, the cabin is plain and functional, with durable materials and plenty of room for a driver and a passenger. Cargo space is the Transit's reason to exist, with tall roofs and long wheelbases that swallow pallets and shelving. The XL is the base Transit, skipping the XLT's extra chrome and power features to keep the price low for fleet buyers and upfitters. Its 3.7L V6 makes 275 horsepower and works with a six-speed automatic to move the van with authority, though expect 16 mpg combined around town. The XL's vinyl flooring and rubber mats mean you can hose out the back after hauling dirt or tools, which the carpeted XLT can't do.
