Miles Overview
The 2000 Mustang is Ford's pony car, offered as a coupe or convertible and spanning the GT and Cobra trims. The rear-drive layout and eager V8s make it genuinely fun on a back road, though the live rear axle can step out if you're not smooth. The cabin is simple and driver-focused, with comfortable front seats and a trunk that swallows groceries, but the back seat is tight for adults. Watch for cracked plastic intake manifolds and misfires on higher-mileage examples, plus a rough time in snow without a limited-slip diff. The GT sits between the base V6 and the Cobra, giving you the 4.6L V8 without the Cobra's independent rear suspension or higher price. With 225 horsepower from the 4.6L V8 and 302 lb-ft of torque, the GT convertible feels strong from a stop, though the five-speed automatic saps some of the snap you'd get rowing your own gears. This GT convertible trades some chassis rigidity for open-air fun, so expect a bit more cowl shake over bumps than the coupe.
