Miles Overview
The 2004 Mustang is Ford's pony car, the one that defined affordable American performance for decades. It's a rear-drive coupe or convertible that loves a winding road, with a manual gearbox that makes you feel part of the machine. The cabin is functional rather than fancy, with plenty of hard plastic but a comfortable front seat and a small back seat. Owners note the paint can bubble and chip over time, and the car is not happy in snow or heavy rain. A V8 engine and standard traction control set the GT apart from the V6 Mustang below it, while the Mach 1 and Cobra sit above with more power and sharper suspension. Its 4.6L V8 makes 225 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque, sent through a five-speed automatic to the rear wheels, which means you'll feel the torque steer free and easy on a straight road. The GT's standard exhaust has a deep, rumbling idle that sounds like a proper V8, and the optional 17-inch wheels improve grip without ruining the ride.
