Miles Overview
The 2001 Ram 3500 is the heavy-duty hauler in Dodge's pickup lineup, built for serious towing and payload work. The cabin is straightforward and functional, with durable cloth seats and a simple dashboard that puts controls within easy reach. The Cummins diesel version has a reputation for reaching high mileage with proper maintenance, while gas trucks are more prone to electrical issues as they age. The ST is the base trim, so you skip the SLT's plusher interior and the Laramie's chrome and power goodies, but you still get the heavy-duty chassis and the same tow ratings. Its 5.9L V6 is the gas base engine paired with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, which means steady power for work sites but the Cummins diesel is the one to track down if you tow heavy every day. The ST rides on 16-inch steel wheels and the optional rear-axle locker is worth finding if you plan to go off pavement with a full load.
