COMPANY DRIVERS:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

  • 23 years of age.
  • Class A Commercial License
  • Hazardous Materials endorsement not required
    • will reimburse $100 to obtain HAZMAT or renew, but not required
  • One full year of Over-the-Road experience within the past three years. (Shaffer Trucking defines Over-the-Road as driving for a company whose trips includes at least three states within trip routes and involve extended days out with overnight stays. Equipment normally run in this manner is equipped with a sleeper berth.)
  • Experience must be quality and verifiable with favorable references.
  • Good driving record on Motor Vehicle Report.
  • No DUI or DWI convictions or positive drug screens in past five years.
  • No major preventable accident within the past five years.
  • Able to pass a paid D.O.T drug screen, physical examination and Shaffer Trucking drive check.

Pay Package:

Announcing a new pay package on August 1st, 2005 further illustrates more than sixty-eight stable years of industry leadership which reflects determination in its desire to hire quality professional drivers.

The pay package is as follows:
 

  • National Fleet:
    (Rate is a cents per mile scale) 1 - 2 years exp. = .42; 3 years = .43; 4 years = .44; 5 years = .45
  • Northeast Region :
    1 -2 Years Exp. = .41; 3 years = .42; 4 years = .43; 5 years = .44 (PLUS $.02 per mile for Northeast Premium States)
  • Southeast Region:
    1 -2 Years Exp. = .39; 3 years = .40; 4 years = .41; 5 years = .42
  • Michigan & Texas Dedicated:
    1 -2 Years Exp. = .38; 3 years = .39; 4 years = .40; 5 years = .41
  • Florida Dedicated:
    1 -2 Years Exp. = .37; 3 years = .38; 4 years = .39; 5 years = .40
  • Teams:
    1 -2 Years Exp. = .44; 3 years = .45; 4 years = .46; 5 years = .47

Profit Sharing/Retirement
Shaffer Trucking contributes a portion of yearly profits to individual profit sharing accounts of every company driver. As a result of the success of Shaffer Trucking, this contribution, overtime can equal more than one to two cents per mile in value.

Life Insurance
$20,000 of life insurance within 90 days of hire date through the first year. Then $50,000 of life insurance coverage second year and thereafter. Life insurance coverage for your family dependents is also available.

401(k) Savings Plan
This program which is in addition to the company paid Profit Sharing Plan allows the driver to set aside up to 15% of his or her earnings prior to the deduction of taxes. Shaffer Trucking will match a percentage of the employee's contribution. This type of program is a real benefit to the company drivers who are actively planning their retirement. Combine your 401(k) and the Shaffer Trucking Profit Sharing Plan and you have a retirement plan second to none in the truckload industry.

Home Time
We at Shaffer Trucking believe it is important to get drivers home frequently. Non-vacation home time will generally be limited to a maximum of six days unless as a result of drivers' high level of productivity, additional time is approved by your fleet manager. The area of drivers' residence and availability of driving opportunities would determine the division in which the driver may be assigned. Listed below are the various divisions and home-time opportunities.

  • Division - National Fleet
    Home Time: 2 - 3 weeks out; off 1½ days per each six days out on road.
     
  • Division - Northeast Regional
    Home Time: Home weekends; guaranteed minimum 24 hours.
     
  • Division - Midwest-East Coast Regional
    Home Time: 10 to 14 days out, 1 to 2 days off.
     
  • Division - Southeast Regional
    Home Time: Home weekends - a portion of FL drivers would be expected to be 7 to 14 days out, 1 to 2 days off.
     
  • Division - Teams
    Home Time: 21 days out, 1 1/2 days off for each week out.

*Regional and Dedicated Fleet drivers may be home more frequently.

OWNER OPERATORS:

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • 1 year OTR experience. No DUI or DWI convictions or positive drug screens in the past five years.
  • Good driving record
  • No major preventable accidents in the past five years.
  • A valid Class (A) C.D.L. with HAZMAT endorsement.
  • Able to pass D.O.T. physical and drug screen.

Pay Package:

Shaffer Trucking continues to be a leader in contractor pay. You will enjoy consistent freight and low deadhead (average 8.5%).

There are two great options to choose from:

Option A:

Mileage Range & Mileage Rate:

  • 1 - 250 (Mileage Rate $1.41)
  • 251 - 400 (Mileage Rate $1.05)
  • 401 - 700 (Mileage Rate $1.03)
  • 701 - 1200 (Mileage Rate $0.98)
  • 1201 - 1600 (Mileage Rate $0.92)
  • 1601 - 2000 (Mileage Rate $0.89)
  • over 2000 (Mileage Rate $0.88)
  • Deadhead (Mileage Rate $0.67)
  • Paid license and permits based on performance.

Option B:
  • Mileage Rate $0.92 / mile - All paid loaded and empty miles
  • 1201 and over (Mileage rate $0.92 / mile - All paid loaded and empty miles)
  • License and Permits paid by Shaffer
  • QualComm - No Cost
